A Poem A Day In April

I'm going to try to participate in the Poetry Foundation's Poem-a-Day activity - all in draft, of course!. Here is the first one! You may submit a poem to be posted here, simply email me at patientpress@gmail.com

POEM 1:

Two of Us

(c) Mary ElizaBeth Peters, April 2010

I hate our government and I’m in love with our President, because

Duality is the new Simplicity.

My breath is dying and my body is reborn, in this

Duality is my new Simplicity.

I am a workaholic drying out on disability, since

Duality is career Simplicity.

You had the love of your life and you can’t stand the sight of them, because

Duality was youth’s Simplicity.

Your childhood left and the rest of you is coming, in this

Duality was self’s Simplicity.

You were infinitely lazy but now toil for survival, since

Duality was fatigue’s Simplicity.

We will be indifferent to the things we love and hate, because

Apathy will be feeling’s Simplicity.

Our history will erase and our future will be innumerable, in this

Unknowing will be faith’s Simplicity.

We will rest between who we are and who we want to be, since

Being will be thinking’s Simplicity.
